Meditation holds key to many doors that might be shut as a solution on several problems, concerning man’s quest for the use of the mind, the ease of his troubles and for the betterness of his general well being. 

Meditation definitions gives insight into several advantages which should encourage all to meditate. There are several types of meditation and this article will talk about them. You should be able to pick one which suits your life style, one which agrees with your definition of meditation.

There is no such thing as the best type or practice of meditate definition, so we will focus on meditative definition types and not waste time on negatives.

General types of meditation can be grouped into focused attention meditation and open monitory.



Types of meditation

Focused attention which is that which has to do with focusing on an object as it’s meditate definition has its examples like parayama meditation, Martha, kundalini meditation, sound meditation, Zazen and many others.

Open monitory which unlike focused attention does not entail focusing on an object but it’s define meditate means keeping open and monitory all aspects of experience, all memory, sound, smell etc like the vipassama etc.

Meditation is a silent heart, a peaceful mind which can make life more lovable, more livable….

There is also pure being type of meditation in which to define meditation it entails focusing on inner silence and deeper state of consciousness and pure presence. Like it is seen in “I am” meditation, advanced yoga etc.

Zazen or zee meditation as practiced in Japan, China and South Korea is a strong sober meditation. It was founded by Soto zen movement in Japan. This meditation is practiced taking a sitting position. It is also called the seated meditation, where you sit on the floor with a mat or cushion crossing legs. It could also be done in a chair.

Once position is assumed, you can focus your breath and you can also count from 1 to 10 or 10 to 1 to help you.

You can do the shikantaza, here you Do not focus on any object. You simply observe the present moment, observing your mind and around it.


Vipassama means seeing clearly. It is also an ancient Buddhist practice and a popular one as well. It helps you gain control of yourself in body and understand your mind. It is done when you sit with legs crossed and spine erect while concentrating . Then you follow your breath movement, so if you are new to meditation you can start with this type.

Mindfulness meditation is mindfulness breathing. It involves focusing on the present moment, accepting thoughts without judging emotions. It is practiced sitting on the chair straight and paying attention to breadth movement.

Lastly, Metta meditation also known as loving kindness meditation boosts your capacity to dwell with others and develop good emotions towards them.

Other types of meditation under the om meditation like the vedic or yoga meditation are also interesting ones you might want to consider. There is also transcendental meditation which you need to pay a tutor to teach you as it dosnt come free. There are other yoga meditations too like the third eye meditation, Chakra meditation, the gazing meditation, the kundalini like earlier mentioned, kriya yoga etc. There is also Chinese meditation where you have taoist meditation, emptiness meditation and breathing meditation among many others.

You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes a day, unless you are too busy. Then you should sit for an hour
